Back to work

I recently realized that the end of the year is pretty, pretty close.  While this handmade virtual space will soon become one-year-old, why not focus on finishing unfinnished work?!  This work gave some huge steps.  Oh-mygo-od!

Experiments with texture

Orí in blue and yellow

Orí: a concept of destiny

For the yorubas, ori is a concept not only to define head, but also, destiny, fate.  Nevertheless, most of yoruba’s iconography give strong emphasis on the head, easily seen on their big-headed sculptures and the well-known head paintings, present in religious rituals.   The picture posted was my first trial painting someone’s head.  Fortunately enough, my model has a great surface to work on, so let’s give it some white to begin with – with the ashe of Oshala!

Yemanja’s New Sky

THIS PAINTING IS IN PROCESS.  RECENTLY I’VE ADDED SOME NEW BLUE TO THIS REPRESENTATION OF THE MYTH, WHERE YEMANJA GIVES BIRTH TO THE STARS IN THE SKY.  FAR FROM BEING DONE, STILL I’M HAPPY WITH THE CONSIDERABLE PROGRESS.

In the process

INSPIRED BY SARAMAGO’S NOVEL “CAIM”, THIS IS ONE HALF OF THE WORK: EVA’S PART.
